Meet Lindsey

Hi there...I'm Lindsey!

I'll be working with you in Mr. Phillips' class this semester. Here's a bit about myself:

I have been working at the college as a tutor over the past four years.  I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies focused on Math, English, and Art History from the University of Houston-Downtown.  I have also worked as a tutor, reader, and scribe—with students whose hand motions are impaired, or who are blind, paraplegic, or quadriplegic.   I absolutely love my job because I have had the most rewarding experiences working with students— helping them succeed and build their confidence.

After graduating high school, I enrolled at LSC-North Harris where I had to start at the very bottom in math and I worked my way up.  My first math class was Pre-algebra with Mr. Phillips and after the first day of class, I went up to Mr. Phillps and introduced myself and then told him, "I can't do math."  At the time, I believe I truly couldn't do math because that was what I was told in high school.  Mr. Phillips looked at me and said, "We'll just see about that...I think my students can do anything when they put forth a real effort!"  So that's exactly what I did: I went above and beyond what I had to do to succeed in college.

In the beginning, math was a struggle, and to be honest with you, I don't think I'll ever be a natural at the subject...but I am determined.  My entire life, I have been proving people wrong...and I love it!  Because in high school I was told "I couldn't do math," I was going to prove them wrong! So, I began with Pre-algebra then proceeded with this series of math classes: Beginning Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, and Differential Equations.  I think by the end of  Differential Equations, I had proven to everyone that I COULD DO MATH!

So, if you've ever been told you couldn't do something, I'm here to tell you that YOU CAN if you work hard enough!  Will it be an easy road to get to your goals?  More than likely not, but if your goals were easy, would attaining them be as rewarding in the end?

I also have to add that I would not have gotten as far as I have if I did not have the team of professors I had who encouraged me and kept me focused on my goals.  I had no idea where all of the math I learned in school was going to take me when I was a student, but I would not have changed anything about my educational history because it led me here--working with you.

Just remember, I've been where you are now and I know where you're headed...I'm here to help you reach your goals as a student.  The most important thing to remember, though, is that you can do anything if you want it bad enough!

I look forward to meeting and working with you this semester to reach your academic goals!

Lindsey
